Workers’Day: NECA suggests Tax Credits/Tax Deferrals as Covid-19 Stimulus Package.

The Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) has suggested a number of stimulus package, and supports to the Nigerian Government, to cushion the effects of COVID-19 pandemic on businesses. In its 2020 May Day celebration message to Nigerian workers, the Association writes:

“Government should take decisive action on stimulus package supports to businesses. NECA expects the Government to engage the social partners, and strategize on measures to prevent impending job losses during and post COVID-19. These measures could include government’s direct wage or income support, wage subsidies, tax credits or tax deferrals, short-term work schemes, and moratoriums on loan payments by organizations.”

The Association further advised the Government to take decisive actions on concerns of the informal sector, which include among others:

i. regular and adequate power/electricity supply

ii. access to loans and funds for their business operations

iii multiple or over-regulation and taxation
